ACR® has received inquiries from radiology providers regarding the availability of iodinated contrast media in the United States following a recently resolved concern. While industry reports indicate that production is essentially normal, higher than usual ordering volumes may be contributing to variability in availability at the department or site level. As a result, distributor allocation strategies may still be in place to help ensure general availability.
During this period, ACR recommends that providers order only the volumes necessary to meet patient care needs and avoid excess ordering (e.g., buffering reserves), which may contribute to allocation constraints. If issues arise with orders, providers should contact their contrast media sales representatives to discuss immediate needs.
ACR continues to actively monitor the situation on behalf of its members and will update this notice if the available information changes.
