ACR Submits Testimony to Congress: Boost NIH, ARPA-H Funding

ACR^® submitted testimony to the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, urging strong federal funding for medical research in federal fiscal year 2027.

The College asked lawmakers to provide at least $51.3 billion for NIH and $1.7 billion for the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). ACR also urged Congress to keep ARPA-H funding separate from the NIH base budget.

In its testimony, ACR highlighted imaging and radiology advances made possible by federal research dollars. These investments help physicians diagnose and detect disease earlier and ultimately improve patient care.

The College noted its role as a partner and potential resource in several key efforts, including:

• NIH’s Common Fund project, Precision Medicine with AI: Integrating Imaging with Multimodal Data program, which links imaging and health data.
• The Tomosynthesis Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial.
• The ARPA-H Biomedical Data Fabric Toolbox.
• National Cancer Institute-designated central public repository of medical images and associated clinical data from lung cancer screening patients.
