Read moreACR® sent comments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regarding a proposed rule to revise physical security requirements for licensed healthcare facilities that possess Category 1 and Category 2 quantities of radioactive material.
In its comments, ACR expressed support for the NRC’s proposal to extend the required coordination interval with local law enforcement to once every three years. The College also supports removing the requirement for weekly verification of material presence. ACR noted that healthcare facilities maintain robust on-site security and routinely use these materials in clinical care, making these requirements duplicative and administratively burdensome.
ACR recommended that NRC retain the requirement for annual refresher training for on-site security personnel to ensure continued preparedness and compliance.
The proposed rule is part of a series of NRC efforts to revise various components of its regulations to meet the requirements of the Trump administration’s NRC reform executive order.
