ACR® 2026 — the College’s annual meeting — and Capitol Hill Day are upon us and, even if not attending, you can make an impact. ACR members’ voices are crucial to educating members of Congress about the importance of passing the Radiology Outpatient Ordering Transmission (ROOT) Act (H.R. 5737/S. 1692). The ROOT Act addresses implementation concerns raised by CMS by amending the imaging appropriate use criteria (AUC) section of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA) of 2014.

Contact your lawmakers now and urge them to cosponsor the ROOT Act. Members participating in Hill Day in Washington will meet with their lawmakers to stress the importance of passing the ROOT Act, but every member can raise the call for passage through ACR’s call to action. The College makes it easy.

Introduced by Reps. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) and Blake Moore (R-UT), and Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), the act would simplify the administration of the AUC program and lead to savings for both Medicare beneficiaries and the Medicare system.

Enacting the ROOT Act will improve patient safety and help to ensure the patient receives the appropriate exam the first time they come in.
